The Initial Matches
Djokovic came to Dubai Open 2020 with high confidence and great form. He had already helped Serbia to win the inaugural ATP Cup. He also had won his 17th Grand Slam in the 2020 Australian Open and regained the world number 1 ranking from Rafael Nadal. Novak continued from where he had left off in Australia. In the first match against Tunisian Malek Jaziri, Djokovic displayed his supreme form. He won the match in two straight sets with a dominant score-line of 6-1 and 6-2.

In the second round of the Dubai Open 2020, Djokovic collided with Germany’s Philipp Kohlschreiber. The German had defeated Novak twice in 2019. However this time the Serb great was in no mood to surrender the match. He registered another emphatic victory again in straight sets with 6-3, 6-1 score.
In the quarter-final Novak Djokovic was expected to have a lot of resistance from the young Russian star Karen Khachanov. The big hitting Russian had in the past played some very tight match against the world number 1.However; Djokovic this time was in too good form to let Khachanov any momentum. The Run For The Dubai Open 2020 Title
Novak Djokovic faced his most formidable opponent Gael Monfils of France in the Dubai Open 2020 semi-final match. The Frenchman was also in great form. He displayed that very early in the match by breaking Djokovic twice and taking the first set. Djokovic on his side looked a bit rusty. Monfils broke early in the second set and a possible first defeat of 2020 looked dawning near for the world number 1.

Those thoughts were however quickly put to rest. Novak broke back and then took the set to a tie breaker. The standards from both players were raised to impossible heights but is was Djokovic who came on top. He won the tie-breaker 10 games to 8 and thus drew level in the match. In the third set it was all Djokovic. He had Monfils running all over the court at his will. The Serb dominated the third set from start to finish. He won it 6-1 and thus made into yet another final.

In the Dubai Open 2020 final match Novak was up against Stefanos Tsitsipas of Greece. The two had earlier met 4 times and won 2 matches each. The Greek was having a great run having already defended his title at Marseille Open, a week prior. He went a break up in both the sets but could not keep pace with the tennis machine simply named as Novak Djokovic. The Serb broke back in both the sets and then broke Tsitsipas both times to win the match in straight sets. He thus won his fifth trophy at Dubai Open and 79th title overall. The Serb star is shining brighter in 2020.
The Dubai Open 2020 Win Significance
The win in Dubai Open 2020 has important short term consequences from Djokovic. He will now continue to be the world number 1 and remain 370 points ahead of Rafael Nadal even if the Spaniard wins the title in Acapulco. Djokovic thus has further cushion to chase down and go ahead in weeks at world number 1 record of Roger Federer. The Serb has also set the ball rolling for the sunshine double which starts in middle of March in the Unites States. He will be a strong favorite in both Indian Wells and Miami this year.
