Today we bring to you the predictions of Roland Garros 2020 quarterfinals in men’s singles. The 2020 French Open has now entered its decisive stages. With 4 of the 5 top seeds still remaining the quarterfinals stage and beyond promises some electric and exciting contests. Rafael Nadal’s chase for the record extending 13th French trophy remains alive and so does the world number 1 Novak Djokovic’s pursuit for a double career Grand Slam. The lesser number of spectators permitted due to COVID19 issues is not dampening the intensity of the tournament. Here is what to expect from the 4 men’s quarterfinal matches in the Parisian Slam.
Dominic Thiem vs Diego Schwartzman
This year’s US Open champion and 3rd seeded male player Dominic Thiem takes on the gutsy Argentine Diego Schwartzman. Both players are great on clay with Thiem being a two time finalist in Paris and Schwartzman having made the finals of the Rome Masters 2 weeks ago. Thiem leads the head to head between the two having won 6 of their 8 matches.
Diego Schwartzman has cruised to the quarters so far without losing a single set while Dominic Thiem had to ensure a 5 set classic again Hugo Gaston of France in the 4th round. The match appears close and intense on paper but Thiem has a lot more in his favour. He has been the 2nd best player at the French Open in last 3 years. We predict that the Austrian will continue his winning run against the in-form Argentine to seal a place against Rafael Nadal in a highly anticipated semi-final. First of our predictions of Roland Garros 2020 quarterfinals in men’s singles.
Our Prediction: Dominic Thiem wins in 4 tight sets
Rafael Nadal vs Jannik Sinner
There has been no better success script in tennis than Rafa Nadal’s outrageous run at Roland Garros. The Spanish great has now won 97 of his 99 matches there with 12 trophies already in the bag and is now chasing the 13th one. On the other side of the court is the 19 year old Italian sensation Jannik Sinner who has made it to the French Open quarters on his debut there. Sinner faces the man who was the last player to do the same 15 years ago. The talented teenager knows the mountain that is lies ahead of him to climb.
After disappointment in Rome, Nadal has been cruising in Paris losing just 23 games and not a single set in his 4 matches. Though the weather and new balls don’t suit him like the old ones, he still has managed to play impeccably. Sinner has also scripted the great run in France so far beating Alexander Zverev in the 4th round. His journey to progress further however looks extremely unlikely. In a match of the master and the young heir apparent, Rafa looks far more experienced to give in to an upset. The win in straight sets will continue for the Spanish superstar. Second of our predictions of Roland Garros 2020 quarterfinals in men’s singles.
Our Prediction: Rafael Nadal wins in 3 straight sets.
Stefanos Tsitsipas vs Andrey Rublev
In a battle of the future superstars, Stefanos Tsipas of Greece and Andrey Rublev of Russia lock horns. Both the talented stars survived intense 5 set clashes in the 1st round and have been growing strong since then. The two powerful baseliners have met 5 times so far with Rublev enjoying a 3-2 lead. The Russian won in their last meeting at the final of the Hamburg Open. Tsitsipas looks to bring his old touch back but at the moment Rublev seems to be the man in form.
The 22 year old Russian is forcing his way into the top 10 and looks very confident on the clay. He won a clay title a couple of weeks ago in Hamburg and getting better and better by the day. Tsitsipas also seems to be regaining his best touch and beat Grigor Dimitrov in a commanding fashion in the 4th round. The match is expected to be a titanic affair but we give an edge to the hard hitting Russian. Rublev is all set to make it to his first Grand Slam semi-final. Third of our predictions of Roland Garros 2020 quarterfinals in men’s singles.
Our Prediction: Andrey Rublev to wins in 5 sets
Novak Djokovic vs Pablo Carreno Busta
The top seed and world number 1 Novak Djokovic seems to be at his best in 2020. He has so far won 36 matches and lost just 1 this year. That match was in the 4th round of the US Open where the Serb received a default. His opponent there is now having a rematch in the quarters in Spain’s Pablo Carreno Busta. The Spaniard also seems to be in good touch having beaten the compatriot Robert Bautista Agut in the 3rd round and also having made to the semis in the US Open.
The two players have met 4 times so far with Djokovic leading the tally 3 wins to 1 loss. The 17 times Grand Slam champ is in the pursuit of the 18th Grand Slam and 2nd success in Paris. He looks too hungry to be defeated at this stage. Barring a huge upset, we expect Novak Djokovic to sail through as he has done in last 4 matches. Pablo Carreno Busta would have to play his best tennis even to challenge the Serb. Novak is riding high on confidence after his Rome victory. Fourth of our predictions of Roland Garros 2020 quarterfinals in men’s singles.
Our Prediction: Novak Djokovic wins in 3 sets.
These are our First of our predictions of Roland Garros 2020 quarterfinals in men’s singles. Do stay tuned to our detailed coverage in the deciding stages of the year’s last slam.
