Today we talk about the BPL Players in IPL 2020. With the exceeding success of the IPL as the most popular and cash-rich tournament in Cricket surpassing the revenues generated by Australia’s Big Bash League, Bangladesh Cricket Board decided to bring about their version of the franchise T20 cricket league in the form of Bangladesh Premier League.
Acquiring their domestic players who have previously represented the Bangladesh national team, they also roped in foreign cricketers mostly out of contract and retired players as well to represent their franchise and to offer the fans a glimpse of their favorite cricketers. Following are a list of BPL Players in IPL 2020.
Chris Gayle
There isn’t any franchise league in the world that would not be inviting the Universe Boss, who is a top draw wherever he goes to play. With close to 10,000 runs in the format along with 20 hundred across all competitions, it can safely be said that Gayle is the greatest T20 batsman that has ever lived. With a stupendous record in T20 cricket of scoring runs across all over the world, Gayle was retained by the Kings XI franchise.
Although the Kings initially did not find it suitable to play Gayle in the middle order with KL Rahul and Mayank Agarwal in top form, Agarwal’s injury had allowed the team management to try out Gayle at the top of the order. Since his debut for Punjab this season he scored three 50+ scores and has looked in ominous form. Punjab too was looking a much more steady and resurgent side with 4 victories on the trot and climbing from the bottom to the fourth position of the points table, before losing when it mattered to be out of playoff’s race. Shane Watson
Chennai Super Kings have imposed faith on their trusted general Shane Watson who again is a legend in this form of the game with years of experience behind him. Moreover, Chennai is well aware of Watson’s match-winning abilities.
Although he bowls no more he can cause enough destruction with the bat when he gets set. Although Watson did show some spark initially, CSK’s collective failure has completely derailed their campaign this time with the team out of the reckoning for a place in the playoffs. Though he’s announced retirement post IPL 2020, he’s among the top BPL Players in IPL 2020.
Andre Russell
Another man who has attained cult status in T20 cricket owing to his exploits in this format of the game, Russell has not been in the best of form. His injury-prone thigh muscle has kept him restricted in the field. He has not been able to play with the full freedom owing to the niggle that he is nursing.
This has cost KKR dearly with the team lying in the 5th position with 6 wins from 12 matches and a chance to qualify for the playoffs hanging in the balance. Among the top BPL Players in IPL 2020.
Sheldon Cottrell
The stout West Indies left-arm fast bowler has been very successful in the shorter versions of the game. He was picked up by the Kings XI Punjab for a whopping price of 8.5 crores and was instrumental behind Kings XI Punjab getting a rollicking start in this edition of the IPL.
However, in a match against Rajasthan Royals in which he was clobbered for 30 runs in a single over, Cottrell has not been able to feature in the side regularly with sporadic appearances. He has not even been half as effective as he was at the beginning of the tournament. Among the top BPL Players in IPL 2020.
Mujeeb Ur Rahman
The Afghan mystery spinner, the compatriot of Rashid Khan who had troubled batsmen all across the world last year has not been able to replicate his performances this year. He has not been in the Kings XI’s scheme of things and in the matches that he has represented the franchise, he has gone for runs and has remained wicket-less. Among the top BPL Players in IPL 2020.
