Today we discuss about the ten cricketers who represent South African players in IPL 2021. While Proteas pace bowling pair was such a hit in the last edition of Indian Premier League that it led the team to title clash against tournament heavyweight Mumbai Indians. And when we speak of batting, it is as good as 360 degree of stroke play of AB de Villiers or power hitting of David Miller. Apparently, they have bowlers, batsmen, all-rounder & wicket-keepers who would represent South African players in IPL 2021, some even iconic players as well of current generation. Here we detail who they are:
Marco Jansen
2000 born Marco Jansen is still to make his international debut but has already been in the news after being selected by the star studded Mumbai Indians for Indian Premier League 2021 season. The Warriors’ all-rounder was part of the South African National U-19 Cricket team and was also among wickets for his team in 4-day first-class competitions of South Africa. While he will be among the cricketers who seek their debut match in the cash rich league, his inclusion means he would be among the South African players in IPL 2021.
Lungi Ngidi
1996 born Lungisani Ngidi has been playing for Chennai Super Kings in Indian Premier League and he took 9 wickets from 4 matches in the 2020 edition for the franchise in one of their forgettable outings. The Pace bowler debuted in Indian Premier League in 2018 and he took 11 wickets from 7 matches in that season. While his inclusion to the playing XI is something which is debatable, his being in the squad means he would be among the South African players in IPL 2021.
David Miller
1989 born David Andrew Miller has a 38 ball century to his name in Indian Premier League cricket. The Left handed batsman scored this unbeaten century against Royal Challengers Bangalore in IPL 2013 in a successful chase. This is the only century Miller has scored in the popular cricket tournament based in India. From 2016 onward this amazing striker of cricket ball is searching for his form.
Miller was picked by Rajasthan Royals during IPL 2020 auctions but could get just one match for them in the league edition. While he will be among the cricketers who seek fresh launch to their IPLT20 career, his retention means he would be among the South African players in IPL 2021.
Chris Morris
1987 born Christopher Henry Morris has already played for Chennai Super Kings, Delhi Capitals (Delhi Daredevils too), Royal Challengers Bangalore in the Indian Premier League, though his best performance came with the Delhi based Franchise. Morris has played for St Kitts and Nevis Patriots, Sydney Thunder in CPL and BBL respectively. The most expensive player this year at the auctions will play for Rajasthan Royals and with uncertainty about Jofra Archer and withdrawal from Mustafizur, he is all certain to be among the 4 overseas player to make a cut to the playing XI, thus representing the sought after South African players in IPL 2021.
Imran Tahir
1979 born Mohammad Imran Tahir is among the oldest cricketers to feature in the India based T20 Cricket tournament. Tahir has been playing T20 leagues across the globe and has played for Duronto Rajshahi, Guyana Amazon Warriors, Melbourne Renegades, Multan Sultans, Sylhet Thunder apart from Delhi Daredevils, Rising Pune Supergiants and Chennai Super Kings in India. The legendary leg spinner will be part of the Chennai side this season as well and that makes him one of the South African players in IPL 2021. Tahir took 26 wickets in IPL 2019.
Anrich Nortje
1993 born Anrich Arno Nortje had a healthy competition going on with compatriot Kagiso Rabada in wickets as well as speed for Delhi Capitals in Indian Premier League 2020. Nortje took 22 wickets from the 16 matches he played in the tournament. Nortje would be central to the Delhi Capitals campaign this year as well and he would feature among the South African players in IPL 2021.
Kagiso Rabada
1995 born Kagiso Rabada is the lead bowler for the teams he plays for, whether it is the national team South Africa or his IPL franchise. Rabada took 30 wickets in Indian Premier League 2020 and became the purple cap winner of the season. Rabada was not much less on his scalps in IPL 2019 when he had picked 25 wickets. The fast bowler will be among the top performing South African players in IPL 2021.
Quinton de Kock (wk)
1992 born Proteas Wicket-keeper batsman was the second highest run-scorer for the IPL 2020 Champions in the tournament edition. QDK scored 500+ runs in both IPL 2019 & 2020 for Mumbai Indians. Quinton de Kock is among the well settled cricketers in the Indian T20 tournament as he would also be among the lead South African players in IPL 2021.
Faf du Plessis
1984 born former Proteas captain Francois du Plessis is among the senior cricketers in the Indian Premier League tournament. Faf was the highest run scorer for Chennai Super Kings in Indian Premier League 2020 edition and was one of the good performers for the side which had a horrid season. The right handed batsman scored 449 runs in the season with four fifty plus scores and he would feature among the top South African players in IPL 2021.
AB de Villiers (WK)
1984 born Abraham Benjamin de Villiers would go on to impact the limited overs cricket so much that he would be called Mr. 360° by fans and cricket pundits. The pair of AB de Villiers and Virat Kohli is seen as one of the best batting pair, though a tournament win could be something which could reflect their authority. AB de Villiers has scored 400 plus runs in IPL 2018,
2019 & 2020 and that would be something Royal Challengers would be expecting to be the trend in upcoming season as well. The Wicket-keeper batsman is perhaps the icon of outgoing generation of cricketers and would be among the most prominent South African players in IPL 2021.
Phase 2 in UAE, Withdrawals & Replacements:
Due to corona outbreak in India, the season was stopped post Match number 29 and all the remaining matches were shifted out of India to be held during September-October at UAE. With the changes in season schedules, there were withdrawals and new additions to the squads. Tabraiz Shamsi would come in for Andrew Tye while Aiden Markram would come in for Dawid Malan.
These were the ten Proteas Cricketers in IPL 2021 season. This is it for today! Hope your liked the content; don’t forget to put in your thoughts & questions as comments.
