Mumbai: Faf Du Plessis will return at the helm of affairs of the South African test team when they take on India in the highly anticipated home series, beginning on January 5.
Du Plessis, who had assumed captaincy of all three formats for the South African national team from AB De Villiers in September this year had missed the one-off pink ball Test against Zimbabwe due to a viral infection. De Villiers, who had last played a Test match against England last year made his comeback and led the team in the absence of Du Plessis.
The Proteas pace bowling contingent has been strengthened with the return of veteran right-arm speedster Dale Steyn. Steyn had been recovering from a shoulder injury and his inclusion in the squad would add that sting to the South African bowling attack.
Steyn would further be joined by the likes of Morne Morkel, Vernon Philander and Kagiso Rabada and the four-pronged pace attack would look to be at their absolute best against the Indians, who boast of a quality batting line-up.
All-rounder Chris Morris too has made it to the 15-man squad. Morris had missed the match against Zimbabwe due to a groin strain, which he suffered in the Ram Slam finals.
Wicket-keeper batsman Quinton De Kock, who too had missed the Test against Zimbabwe has been named in the squad.
Here is the 15-man squad-
Faf du Plessis (c), Hashim Amla, Temba Bavuma, Quinton de Kock, Theunis de Bruyn, AB de Villiers, Dean Elgar, Keshav Maharaj, Aiden Markram, Morne Morkel, Chris Morris, Andile Phehlukwayo, Vernon Philander, Kagiso Rabada, Dale Steyn.
