Gautam Gambhir led Delhi failed to perform on a bowler friendly pitch as Karnataka destroyed Delhi’s batting and winning the match by an innings and 160 runs within two and a half days in the Ranji Trophy group stage match.
However it was K Gowtham the cause of havoc making a comeback after his debut in 2012-13 as he picked career best 5/35 finishing the match with figures 8/61 going on to win the Man of the Match.
Delhi had a huge trail of 324 runs as their first innings ended only on 90 runs and with a follow-on enforced, they came back to chase again in second innings. They could only manage to scrap 164 runs ending their innings and match 50 minutes post lunch with a day and one session to spare.
‘Local Boy’ Gautam Gambhir’s performance was below par as he only managed to score twin scores of two runs in both innings. He was caught in the slips as he nicked it behind to a delivery from Abhimanyu Mithun exposing his technical flaws on a track which has some movement to offer.
This bonus point victory took Karnataka top of the group B with 10 points. Delhi is trailing with 8 points.
Final Scores: Delhi 90 and 164 (Unmukt Chand 38, Varun Sood 41, K Gowtham 5/35). Karnataka’s 1st Innings 414. Karnataka won by an innings and 160 runs.
