Today we bring you the Cricketers who scored the most runs in Asia Cup 2010. The Asia Cup was played in March 2010, 7 matches were played during June 15- 24, 2010. This was the tenth edition of the continental cricket tournament run by Asian Cricket Council and was hosted by Sri Lanka. Four teams were part of the Asia Cup 2010 viz. India, Bangladesh, Pakistan & Sri Lanka. India won their 5th title at the tournament & Lasith Malinga led the wickets table. Here we discuss the batsmen who hit the most runs in Asia Cup 2010.
5. Mahela Jayawardene (Sri Lanka)
Sri Lanka’s legendary batsman Mahela Jayawardene scored 161 runs from the 4 matches he played in the tournament with an average of 53.66 and best score of 54 coming against Pakistan on June 15. With this run aggregate, Jayawardene featured among the top 5 list of most runs in Asia Cup 2010.
Sri Lanka batted first and scored 242/9 from their overs. Mahela Jayawardene scored 54, Angelo Mathews scored 55 not out, while captain Kumar Sangakkara scored 42. In reply, Pakistan were bowled out for 226 despite Shahid Afridi’s 109.
4. MS Dhoni (India)
Indian Captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni scored 173 runs from the 4 matches he played in the tournament with an average of 57.66 and best score of 56 coming against Pakistan on June 19. This was the only fifty plus score for the batsman from the tournament edition. With this run aggregate, MS Dhoni featured among the top 5 list of most runs in Asia Cup 2010. His best score took India to a 3-wickets win over Pakistan.
3. Kumar Sangakkara (Sri Lanka)
Sri Lankan Captain & Wicketkeeper Batsman Kumar Sangakkara scored 184 runs from the four matches at an average of 46 and best score of 73 coming against India in the sixth match on June 22. With this run aggregate, Sangakkara featured among the top 5 list of most runs in Asia Cup 2010. India had set a target of 210 for the Sri Lankan team with Rohit Sharma‘s 69, MS Dhoni’s 41 and Dinesh Karthik‘s 40. Sri Lanka won the match within 40 overs with Sangakkara’s 73 & Mahela Jayawardene’s 53 not out.
2. Gautam Gambhir (India)
Indian Opening batsman Gautam Gambhir scored 203 runs from the four matches he played in the tournament with an average of 50.75 and best score of 83 coming against arch rivals Pakistan on on June 19 at Dambulla. His runs would include two half-centuries and with this run aggregate, Gambhir featured among the top 5 list of most runs in Asia Cup 2010.
Pakistan had batted first and they were bowled out for 267 despite Salman Butt’s 74 & Kamran Akmal‘s 51. India chased down the target in the last over with Gambhir top scoring with 83 and MS Dhoni scoring a valuable 56. Praveen Kumar took 3 wickets while Zaheer Khan & Harbhajan Singh took 2 apiece.
1. Shahid Afridi (Pakistan)
Pakistan Batsman was known for some blistering hitting of white ball. Sahibzada Mohammad Shahid Khan Afridi scored 265 runs from the three matches he played in the tournament with an average of 88.33 and best score of 124 coming against Bangladesh in the fifth match on June 21 at Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium. His runs would include two centuries, and his highest score was the highest score overall and he was the only century maker in the tournament. His strike rate was also the best of the season like his batting average. With this run aggregate, Afridi led the top 5 list of most runs in Asia Cup 2010.
In his highest individual score innings, Pakistan batted first and scored 385/7 with Afridi’s 124, Imran Farhat 66, Shahzaib Hasan’s 50 & Umar Akmal’s 50. In reply, Bangladesh could reach only 246/5 from their 50 overs.
