Challenging Time for IPL 2020
The season hasn’t been quite smooth for the cash-rich league as Corona Pandemic postponed the initial season from a normal April-June period to September-November as it is now. If that wasn’t enough, Indo-Chinese Border tension did away with the title sponsor making it tough couple weeks for the BCCI to get a new sponsor.
They finally did it on August 19, when Dream11 came in as the title sponsor for the league. But troubles weren’t over for the IPL 2020 yet.
Players Backing out
It started with Chris Woakes on August 18 and till this publish, Harry Gurney (Kolkata Knight Riders), Jason Roy (Delhi Capitals) and soon Indians also joined in the parade. Suresh Raina (Chennai Super Kings) was the first key player to withdraw from the league due to personal reasons. Reports are adrift that he might well be back into the IPL fold few matches into the season. Harbhajan Singh (Chennai Super Kings) gave the Chennai based outfit their second jolt by withdrawing from the league.
Defending Champions Mumbai Indians too lost one of their key names in Lasith Malinga who also cited personal reasons for the withdrawal. James Pattinson was named his replacement. Kane Richardson was the next in the line, replaced by Adam Zampa.
Last few weeks were also full of uncertainty vis-a-vis the season, and the Corona scare might have played out in the minds of these players. Now, the situation changes with announcement of IPL 2020 schedule and we might see the challenges easing out to bring about a spectacular tournament.
