Dubai: At the 8th Fazza 2017 World Para Powerlifting World Cup, Farman Basha of India won silver in the -49 kg category here. Jordan’s Omar Sami Hamadeh Qarada won gold while Nador Tunkel of Hungary won bronze.
Earlier, in the Senior Men’s upto 49 kg event, Omar lifted best weight of 162 kg weight to take the number one position on the victory standings, while Farman Basha of India and Nador Tunkel lifted best weight of 148 and 147 kg respectively to claim second and third positions on the victory standings.
The Indian powerlifter, Farman Basha had missed out on a bronze medal, finishing fourth in the men’s 49 kg category at the Rio Paralympic Games. Basha has won a bronze medal at the 2010 Asian Para Games in Guangzhou, China.
This event is the first big event post the 2016 Paralympic Games at Rio de Janeiro. The event has over 50 participants from 27 countries taking part from 19-26 February, prior to the start of the eighth Fazza 2017 World Para Powerlifting World Cup under different weight categories.
