India have been sending competitors for the Summer Paralympics since 1968 and attempted to participate most of the main-stream sports in this event. For the London 2012 Paralympics, India also sent some of their best Paralympians to take part in the 4 major sports-athletics, powerlifting, shooting, and swimming.
India sent 10 member contingent for the Paralympics. 2012, however, wasn’t a great year for our country in Paralympics in terms of medal tally and India could only fetch one medal. However there were 5 Para-athletes who impressed people. Let’s find out the top-5 Paralympians based on their performances-
5. Sharath Gayakwad:
Sharath Gayakwad is a Paralympic swimmer, who represented India at the London 2012 Paralympics in swimming.
He was the solo Paralympics swimmer at the mega event and participated in 4 different categories of this game. He is India’s first-ever Paralympic swimmer and finished 9th, 12th, and 14th after the final rounds of the swimming events he featured in.
4. Sachin Chaudhary:
Sachin Chaudhary is a Powerlifter who participated at the London 2012 Paralympics and hogged the limelight for his brilliant effort. He participated in the men’s 82.50 kg event and lifted a total weight of 187.0 kg.
Unfortunately, his endeavor couldn’t reward him with any medal at that event, and he finished at 9th rank in powerlifting.
3. Narender Ranbir:
Narender Ranbir is one more must-recommendable name among the top-5 Paralympians at the London 2012 Paralympics.

He is a Paralympic javelin thrower and participated in the javelin F-44 event. Narender narrowly missed out the rank as well as a medal at that competition and finished sixth at the end.
2. Farman Basha:
Farman Basha is a mentionable contender at 2012 London Paralympics for his impeccable effort in the powerlifting event. He is a two-time Asian Games silver medalist and has had a dream of winning a medal at the Paralympics.

Basha participated in the Men’s 48kg weight category at that Paralympics but couldn’t lift more than 150 kg in total, which gave him the 5th rank at that event.

Girisha Nagarajegowda is the only paralympian, who fetched India a medal and hence saved the contingent coming home empty-handed.
He is a Paralympic high-jumper and represented our country at 2012 London Paralympics in the men’s high jump F-42 event. Girisha won a silver medal at that competition and became the London 2012 Paralympics.
