Pune: The Pune based DSK Shivajians FC, today, signed Holicharan Narzary, Nirmal Chettri and Subrata Paul from Indian Super League outfit NorthEast United FC.
The decision to bring in the 22 year old forward Narzary was taken in line to add youthful exuberance in the attack. DSK Shivajians will look to add pace as the attacker from Assam can play both on the wing as well as up front. Narzary, a product of SAI and the AIFF Youth Academies, has made 7 Senior National Team Appearances till date.
Speaking about signing of Narzary and his profile, First Team Manager Dave Rogers said, “I have followed Holicharan’s progress over the last two years. His development in the Indian National Team, and his performances at the top level have been excellent. He is one of India’s brightest young talents and his pace and quality from wide areas adds another dimension to our game and a threat to opposition teams. I am excited and thrilled to have brought him to DSK Shivajians and under our guidance we know he can develop even further.”
The second new joiner, Nirmal Chettri, will lead DSK Shivajians in defence. A seasoned professional, the versatile defender can play as both a Centre Back and a Full Back. Paul has been a part of the Indian National Team since 2011, the 26 year old, has represented the country at the U17, U19, U23 as well as Senior Level is a major coup for the club.
Speaking about Nirmal, Rogers said, “Nirmal is a model professional with excellent experience; and a desire and passion which he carries both on and off the pitch. He will lead by example and bring organization along with commitment and dedication which is one of the main recruitment strategies we have at this club. He is a great addition to the squad and I wish him every success here at DSK Shivajians.”
To safeguard their goal post, Shivajians have re-signed Subrata Paul. The man, known fondly as “Spiderman” by fans for his heroics at the AFC Asian Cup 2011, re-joins the club after a manning their posts in their inaugural season. With 64 caps for the Indian National Team, the ever-reliable Paul will prove a nightmare to get past for the various opposition in store for DSK Shivajians.
Speaking about Paul, Rogers said, “Subrata Paul for me is the best goalkeeper in India; so to sign him for DSK Shivajians is a real coup for our club. His experience and work ethic in training and in games is second to none, along with his ambition and hunger to succeed means he fits perfectly into the profile and caliber of players I want at this club. His leadership and professionalism will rub off immensely to the rest of our squad and help in the development of our younger goalkeepers. I know he will bring a lot of discipline and enthusiasm on and off the pitch.”
In addition to these three, Liverpool FC International Academy-DSK Shivajians graduates Lallianzuala Chhangte and Jerry Mawihmingthanga, who burst onto the National Football scene at the SAFF Championship as well as the South Asian Games respectively have also returned to the club after a loan spell at NorthEast United.
