Brendon McCullum (Kolkata Knight Riders)
The first New Zealand player to hit a Test triple century, Brendon Barrie McCullum, scored 158 for Kolkata Knight riders against Royal Challengers Bangalore in his debut match in the inaugural edition of Indian Premier League. The swashbuckling batter would go on to play for Kochi Tuskers Kerala, Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers Bangalore before moving over to the other side of cricket.
His active cricketing career would have a IPL 2008-2018 phase in Indian Premier League while IPL 2019 would get him into the coaching shoes. McCullum is listed among the coaches of IPL 2021 teams as he’s working with Kolkata Knight Riders for the third season straight.
Ricky Ponting (Delhi Capitals)
The Australian Run-Machine and arguably the most successful Australian Captain was part of Kolkata Knight Riders & Mumbai Indians in Indian premier League as a cricketer and got a few matches in IPL 2008 & IPL 2013. The legendary Kangaroo Cricketer would move then to the other side of cricket as he would coach Mumbai Indians during IPL 2014-16 winning the trophy once as a Franchise coach.
Punter was appointed the coach of Delhi Capitals in Indian Premier League 2018 and has since been with this franchise as he also feature among the coaches of IPL 2021 teams. With him the franchise is getting better every season and were the runners up in IPL 2020.
Anil Kumble (Punjab Kings)
The legendary leg spinner and record holder of picking all 10 wickets in an innings went on to play for Royal Challengers Bangalore in Indian Premier League. Kumble would pick 45 wickets from 43 matches in his IPL career during IPL 2008-2010 before moving to the other career and right away he was made RCB Mentor.
The Champion leg spinner of yesteryear would move to Mumbai Indians as he would be with them during 2013-2015. In 2019, he joined Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings) as their Head Coach and Director of Cricket Operations as Anil Kumble is among the coaches of IPL 2021 teams.
Mahela Jayawardene (Mumbai Indians)
The Batting mainstay of yesteryears of Sri Lanka would play the Indian Premier League tournament during the period IPL 2008-2013 scoring 1800+ runs with a hundred and 10 fifties. Denagamage Praboth Mahela de Silva Jayawardene would be brought in to coach the most successful franchise in the history of IPL in 2017 as the team would win 2017, 2019 and 2020 seasons. Stephen Fleming (Chennai Super Kings)
The longest serving and most successful New Zealand Captain was part of Chennai Super Kings team in IPL 2008 as he would gather 196 runs from 10 matches he played in the tournament edition. From IPL 2009 onward he was onboard of the Chennai Franchise as their coach and has been with them since then apart from the 2 years ban time when he was with Rising Pune Supergiant. Stephen Paul Fleming is among the coaches of IPL 2021 teams with a 3 title and many top 4 finish in the T20 league tournament.
Simon Katich (Royal Challengers Bangalore)
The left handed Australian all-rounder was part of the Mohali based Kings XI Punjab side for IPL 2008-2009 before moving over to the other side of roles. Simon Matthew Katich hadn’t had an exceptional playing career in IPL, the tournament that came into existence in the fag end of his cricketing career as he would score just two fifties from the 11 matches he played in the two seasons.
He would then be picked by Kolkata Knight Riders in 2015 as their assistant coach before moving to Royal Challengers Bangalore as their head coach in 2019. Katich is among the coaches of IPL 2021 teams as he continues to serve the franchise for the ongoing season as well.
Trevor Bayliss (Sunrisers Hyderabad)
The Australian Cricket coach has some flying colors to his name as he coached the Cricket World Cup 2011 runners up Sri Lanka for the period 2007-2011, coached the Kolkata Knight Riders that won IPL titles in 2012 & 2014. Trevor Harley Bayliss was roped in as the coach of Sunrisers Hyderabad in IPL 2020 as the team would finish 3rd in the 8 team tournament. Bayliss is among the coaches of IPL 2021 teams as he would like to get the Hyderabad based team ready for their second title win.
Trevor Penney (Rajasthan Royals)
Rajasthan Royals parted ways with Andrew McDonald who was their coach for IPL 2020 and with no replacement announced for the season, the lead Assistant Coach Trevor Lionel Penney would be the man in charge of getting the basics right of the individuals in the Sawai Man Singh Stadium based outfit. The Zimbabwean former cricketer is among the coaches of IPL 2021 teams as he would try to equip the champions of the inaugural edition of Indian Premier league for the challenges in the ongoing season.
