Simona Halep Beat Serena Williams Wimbledon Final
If Venus Williams received a shock in her 1st match at Wimbledon 2019, the younger sister Serena would do so in the final. Serena searching for her 24th Grand Slam since her return from childbirth was in her 2nd successive Wimbledon final. Already a champion there 7 times, she would start as an early favorite but her opponent Romania’s Simona Halep who was unable to defend her French Open title a month earlier also looked determined to create history.

Bianca Andreescu Beat Serena Williams US Open 2019
Serena’s quest for her 24th singles slam remained elusive even at the US Open this year. After her 3 final defeats since 2018, the American was looking great this year in New York. She seemed destined to add another slam to her tally. Standing against Serena was a force of nature from Canada with the name Bianca Andreescu.
Like Japan’s Naomi Osaka last year Andreescu denied the great champion her 7th success at the Arthur Ashe stadium. The Canadian took the match in 2 sets shocking the New York crowd who were wildly cheering for Serena. Like Osaka last year, Andreescu also became the 1st player from her home nation to win a Grand Slam. Serena’s search for a slam equaling Margaret Court would remain intact as she now enters season 2020.
