17th June seems to have some link to tennis. For on this day we have birthdays of not one but three contemporary tennis players.
Leander Paes
First of First its the 43rd Birthday of Leander Paes. Yes he is 43 born on 17th June 1973, he is simply defining the saying of age is only a number. He has just won another grand slam at the just concluded French Open, and completed a career grand slam and will be making a record 7th appearance for India at the Rio Olympics. He seems to be improving with age and his fitness is simply unmatched. We at Sports Crunch wish him the happiest of birthday and wish he continues to play like this and win another Olympic medal for India.
Venus Williams
The second of the Williams sisters born on 17th June 1980. The elder of the two, she along with Serena at one point of time simply dominated the women’s tennis scene. Final after final featured the two sisters . However with injuries she has been subdued while Serena still continues the rampage. She turns 36 this year and is focusing on pairing up with Serena at the Rio Olympics to win a record 5th Olympic medal for USA.
Marcos Baghdatis
Completing our tennis list is the Cypriot who will turn 31 this year. He burst into the scene in 2006 when he reached the final of Australian Open only to be bettered by Roger Federer. He also managed to reach the semifinal of Wimbledon in the same year. However since then series of injuries have hampered his progress and its such a shame to see such a talent wasted. We wish him an injury free year.
