Without making an impact London Olympics bronze medalist Yogeshwar Dutt was back from Rio with a defeat in first round. However, the tale in saga turned when his London medal was upgraded to Silver, now speculations are doing rounds that his silver medal could turn into gold depending on WADA/UWW decision.
As the sample of Silver medalist Besik Kudokhov (Russia) had tested positive for a banned substance, the upgrading of medal of Yogi was the favorable case for the Indian Wrestler.
Even after the heartbreaking loss at Rio, the congratulatory messages have flooded in for Yogi, now there is another news that – even his silver medal may turn into gold because of sample of Azerbaijan’s Toghrul Asgarov who won gold has tested positive.
There will be a turn in Asgarov tale as he also won silver medal in Rio in 65kg category. There is so much happening in the wrestling arena even after four years of the actual match.
Their triangle medal saga has another bronze medalist- USA’s Coleman Scott who lost to Asgarov. Rule books will be turned up and down to find the real gold medal winner for London games in 65kg category. As players are not even aware how this will be calculated, both Yogi and Scott are hoping for upgradation of their medals.
As Yogi has equaled the record of Sushil Kumar by winning a silver medal in wrestling he may become the first man to win gold medal in wrestling after four years of match.
The Wrestling Federation of India and world body United World Wrestling officials have already started turning the rule books and Indians have started hoping for turning the medal. Though the rules suggest that Scott will be upgraded for gold and Yogi for silver but anything can happen now.
According to the rules of UWW, wrestler will be disqualified and will be automatically placed last in the ranking if samples are positive in doping. DSQ stand for disqualified and no athlete wants its written next to their name but this can happen to anyone.
Now with this re-shuffle in list the 65kg category list will be review and those who stood 4th, 5th and 6th may be upgraded as well. Even after four years wait for new list of medalist from London 2012 Olympic 65kg category is still on.
