Indian Wushu player Rajinder Singh lost his semifinal bout at the 14th Wushu World Championship 2017 at Kazan, while on another side Surya Bhanu Pratap Singh and Rameshchandra Moirangthem won their respective QF bout and reached semifinal round.
In the 90kg Sanda semifinals, Rajinder lost against Iran’s Milan Areti Magham by 2-0 and he’ll have to be content with Bronze medal for India. Earlier, Rajinder had defeated Australia’s Joseph Peter Noon by 2-0 in Round of 16 and Bozigit Ataev from Russia by 2-1 in Quarterfinals.
In the 60kg Sanda, Surya Bhanu Pratap Singh won his Quarterfinal bout against Brazilian Lucas Luciano Queiroz Pereira by 2-0 and secured a medal for the country. Bhanu had won bronze medal in same category in the last edition as well and will try to change colour of medal as he’ll appear for the Semifinal bout. Earlier, he defeated Kok Ming Nick Ang of Singapore by 2-0 in Round of 32 and Paris Lee Moran of USA by 2-0 in Round of 16.
Rameshchandra Singh also secured a medal by winning 48 kg Sanda Quarterfinal against Ahmed Al-Sharifi of Iraq by 2-0.
In other categories, Santosh Kumar lost in Men’s 56 kg Sanda Round of 16 by 2-0 against Yusuf Widiyanto of Indonesia. Defending Silver medalists in Men’s and Women’s 52 kg Sanda, Uchit Sharma and Sanathoi Devi Yumnam also lost their respective Round of 16.
Uchit was defeated by Arnel Mandal of Phillipines by 2-0 in Round of 16 while Sanathoi Devi was knocked out by Hyebin Kim of Korea by 2-0.
Sanda or Sanshou is a modern combat/fight method based on Chinese Martial Art skills. It is influenced by Chinese wrestling, boxing and kickboxing techniques.
