Mumbai: Owing to the half centuries from skipper Kane Williamson and Tom Latham, New Zealand declared their innings today on 324/7 on the first day of the three day of the warm-up match.
Aditya Tare winning the toss, at the Feroz Shah Kotla stadium, invited the visitors to bat first. In response, the Kiwis scored a healthy total owing to the 85 run partnership between Kane Williamson and Tom Latham who retired after scoring 55 runs.
Mumbai scored 29/1 at stumps, trailing by 295 runs in the first innings.
New Zealand pacie Trent Boult, got the only wicket of opener Jay Bista who was caught behind for a duck. Kaustubh Pawar and Armaan Jaffer are still on crease with five and 24 runs respectively at the end of day’s play.
The day, however, belonged to New Zealand batsmen. They scored at almost five runs an over against the Mumbai’s bowling attack who used up nine of their bowling options.
Ross Taylor scored 41 runs and Mitchell Santner scored 45 runs of 59 balls whose contributions also helped the Kiwis helped gain a healthy lead. BJ Watling scored 21 runs of 52 balls before he retired himself. Ish Sodhi exploded at the end, before NZ declared its inning, scoring 29 runs of 20 balls with 3 fours and 2 sixes.
Both sides have 15 members each of which only 11 players are allowed to bat and field in the only warm-up tie before the test series against India which starts from 22nd September in Kanpur.
