Kolkata: A 21-year old Delhi batsman, Mohit Ahlawat has done the unimaginable and created history by becoming the first ever batsman to score a triple century in the Twenty20 format across all levels. The wicket-keeper-batsman sent the ball flying in all directions on Tuesday when he smashed an incredible 300 not out off just 72 balls, hitting an unbelievable 39 sixes and 14 boundaries to get there. Mohit was playing for Maavi XI against Friends XI in a Twenty20 match at Lalita Park in New Delhi.
Mohit was batting on 250 at the end of 18 overs and would go on to score his last 50 runs in the remaining two overs of the match. He would go on to hit 34 off the last six deliveries where he hit five consecutive sixes off the last five balls of the innings. Mohit’s heroic effort led his side to a gigantic total of 416 at the end of 20 overs. This also helped his team become the first ever to cross the 400-run mark in T20 cricket.
The batsman has played three first-class games for Delhi but failed to impress as in those three first-class matches, all of which came back in 2015, the youngster then only managed five runs with his highest score being a paltry four runs.
The record fro the highest individual score in T20 internationals is held by the Australian, Aaron Finch, who blasted 156 runs off just 63 balls against a hapless English squad back in 2013. KL Rahul holds the record for the highest individual score by an Indian in a T20 International when he scored a brisk 110 not out against the West Indies. The highest score of Twenty20 cricket, not including club cricket though belongs to West Indian great Chris Gayle who had hit 175 not out in an Indian Premier League (IPL) match for the Royal Challengers Bangalore in 2013.
The previous best at any level in T20 cricket overall was by a Sri Lankan player named Dhanuka Pathirana, who had registered 277 off 72 balls.
