Eldrick Tont “Tiger” Woods has withdrawn from next week’s PGA Championship and will not play again this season, according to the PGA Championship and his agent Mark Steinberg.
Woods has not played since the PGA Tour event in August 2015; 11 months ago and has had two surgeries on his back since .
Amongst the highest-paid athletes in the world for several years, his absence from the year’s final major means he will have missed all four in a calendar year for the first time in his illustrious career.
The PGA Championship will be played July 28-31 at Baltusrol Golf Club in Springfield, New Jersey. This year’s PGA has been pre-scheduled to accommodate the Rio 2016 Summer Games which starts early August.
The 2015-16 regular season includes three more events and then the four-event playoffs, culminating with the TOUR Championship Sept. 22-25. The Ryder Cup is the following week.
