Starting off the match on caution & aggression, India were ahead with a 2-0 lead in the first half through Penalty corner conversion from the star drag flicker Rupinder Pal Singh. India was without their key member Raghunath VR and lost their regular captain Sreejesh PR during the Sultan Azlan Shah Cup.
The first quarter had chances not converted for India which they made amend to when they entered the second quarter. At the start of second quarter, Akashdeep Singh won India their third penalty corner, where Rupinder Pal Singh ensured a successful conversion to give India a 1-0 lead in the 17th minute.
Ten minutes later, India won their second goal off a penalty corner through another of Rupinder Pal Singh’s drag flicks. This was Singh’s third goal in this edition of Sultan Azlan Shah Cup.India furthered their lead in the 48th minute via a SV Sunil’s goal to be followed in scoring by Talwinder Singh taking India’ tally to a comprehensive 4-0, sealing the match and the bronze medal on offer.
In their last match yesterday, India had failed to qualify for the final of the tournament after a 1-0 defeat at the hands of hosts Malaysia.
Title favorites Australia will take on Great Britain in the final of the tournament.
