The Paralympic games have grown from a small gathering in 1948 to become international sporting events of Olympic structure. The gaming event is organized for differently abled participants but unfortunately there is a huge funding gap between Olympic and Paralympic games. The IOC made it a rule that the Paralympics will be held at the same time of Olympics. While India is eyeing to host Olympic games in some time, are we really prepared to follow the rule of IOC to hold the Paralympic games together?
This year the Paralympic Games are held in Rio De Janerio from 7-18 September, 2016, but trust me many of us are not even aware that the game is about to start. While media was roaring before and after Rio Summer Olympics many of us are not aware the Indian athletes who will be participating in the Paralympic Games. Like Summer Olympics, this time Paralympics will also be seeing maximum number of Indian athletes participating, here are the names who will try to finish on the podium:
- Mariyappan Thangavelu – High jump
- Devendra Jhajharia – Javelin throw
- Varun Singh Bhati – High Jump
- Sundar Singh Gurjar – Javelin throw
- Dharambir – Club throw

The Paralympic games are the platform for athletes with different ability to showcase their skills and represent their country. In India where we don’t provide commuting support to differently abled people these athletes are making it big on the Paralympic platform. Let’s come together as a sports nation to support them.
