Candidate Master Advait Bagri, a product of the South Mumbai Chess Academy, wins the prestigious Singapore National Age Group (NAG) 2017 title with a magnificent score of 7.5 out of 8.
Playing in a competition that featured 14 other countries, Bagri, who participated in the U-12 category as a top seed completely dominated his opponents till the very last round and also consistently maintained a gap of a clear point with his closest rivals who scored 6.5 out of 8.
What’s even more enthralling is the fact that the wonderkid from SMCA’s academy in Singapore makes his moves at a lightning fast speed and also increases his ELO points at a good pace as a result of which his peers or opponents find it difficult to match him. The youngster has already shown a lot of consistency and is improving with every passing day.
“I am really happy I stood first in the Nationals and I feel my quality of games have improved. The Singapore Chess federation has been my biggest source of strength with their most proactive and progressive approach. I further feel that I should dedicate my win to Mehar Sir and Balaji sir, who have spent so much time preparing me, as well as of course my family who supported me throughout the tournament. I am also thankful to the Singapore Chess Federation for their arrangements,” Bagri said after his win.
One of the world’s leading chess academies, SMCA some time ago made it’s presence felt in 14 cities across the world and Bagri’s success is a good example of the good work done by the institution in honing new talent in the sport.
Advait now has a career best FIDE rating of 1985 points and has achieved a lot of success in this calendar year with an unbreakable winning streak.
