Pune: The South Mumbai Chess Academy, popularly known as the SMCA has taken a step further in promoting chess in the country with it’s new branch in the vibrant city of Pune.
Already having it’s branches in south Indian cities like Eluru and Rajahmundry, the SMCA would be starting it’s full-time centre in Pune where the young chess talents would be able to get access to quality coaching with all sorts of modern coaching equipment. This full-time coaching centre would cater to players from all age levels, thus making it a delightful option for aspiring chess stars.
Also, Grandmaster coaching camps would be organised by the academy.
“Providing the quality coaching to the players is our motto,” said renowned coach Balaji Guttula, who is also the chief coach of the academy.
Pune thus becomes the latest addition to the list of 13 Indian cities where SMCA has already opened it’s centres. Also, its CEO Durga Nagesh Guttula revealed that they are planning to open similar centres in other parts of the country as well.
“Last month SMCA forayed into southern part of India by starting full time centres in Rajahmundry and Eluru and Hyderabad, after Pune we would be starting our full time chess centres in Vadodara and Chennai,” he said.
One of the world’s leading chess academies, the SMCA has time and again proved why it is such a crucial element in the growth of the sport in India, by unearthing talents like Kush Bhagat and Suhaani Lohia, who have gone on to make the country proud on several occasions.
It also has it’s international branches in Singapore and Dubai and with the academy taking up the work of developing the game in the country, one can only hope that India, which has produced champions like Vishwanathan Anand, turns out to be a chess superpower in the near future.
