New Delhi: World Championships sliver medalist PV Sindhu questioned the Badminton World Federation over it’s timing of Introducing the new service law during the prestigious All England Open next year.
As per the new rule which will be first experimented during the All England Championships, “the whole of the shuttle shall be below 1.15 metres from the surface of the court at the instant of being hit by the server’s racket.”
Sindhu however felt that such an Introduction during the high profile tournament could be a big jolt for everybody.
“From my side it’s just that it could have come at a better time. A different tournament instead of the All England Championships because it is a very prestigious tournament for everybody,” said the Rio Olympics silver medalist.
“As far as my service goes I am trying but it should not be much of problem. We just need to practice it out,” added the 22-year-old when asked about the new service rule.
Talking about the cramped international calendar that has received a lot of flank from both coach Pullela Gopichand and compatriot Saina Nehwal among others, Sindhu however refused to discuss something that has already been decided.
“The calender has already come out so we cannot say we won’t play,” she said calling it useless to frown upon matters out of one’s own reach. “Of course it’s a very tough schedule with World Championship, Asian Games and Commonwealth Games. I am going to pick and choose tournaments and plan with the coach accordingly,” she added.
According to the new rules it had become mandatory for all the top shuttlers to play atleast 12 tournaments in 2018. Failing to comply to such a rule may lead to severe punishments.
Meanwhile, Sindhu led Chennai Smashers next play Mumbai Rockets at the Premier Badminton League.
The third season of the PBL which was supposed to begin with a big money clash between Sindhu and Saina, however could not be played because the World No. 11 had injured her toe during the training session and Sindhu expressed her disappointment.
“Even I was expecting she would play, I put the trump from my side,” concluded the Korean Open champion.
