Another action packed weekend in the Super Boxing League saw Maratha Yoddhas, North East Tigers and Haryana Warriors register comprehensive wins in their respective matches to stay in the hunt for the semi-final spots. The Maratha Yoddhas impressed again as they won their second consecutive match of Super Boxing League beating the Bahubali Boxers 12-6 in Group B. The second Group B encounter of the weekend saw Asha Roka-led North East Tigers beat Mumbai Assassins 12-6 to ensure Maratha Yoddhas’ and North East Tigers’ semi-final berths. Whereas, in Group A, Haryana Warriors kept their hopes of a semi-final spot as they beat the struggling UP Terminators 15-3.
The first match of the weekend was between Deepak Tanwar-led Maratha Yoddhas and Kuldeep Singh-led Bahubali Boxers in Group B. It was the Maratha Yoddhas who started the match strongly as they won the first four bouts of the night through Sandeep Singh, Andy Chuaua, Lalnunfeli, and Deepak Tanwar to take an unassailable 12-0 lead. Bahubali Boxers were struggling on the night and needed two consecutive Knock Out wins to level the points after the six bouts, but they could only win the two bouts by Unanimous Decision as the match finished 12-6 in Maratha Yoddhas’ favour.
In Group B’s second encounter of the weekend, it was Asha Roka-led North East Tigers who took on the Mumbai Assassins. The match between the two teams also consisted of the most anticipated bout of the Super Boxing League when Tigers’ Asha Roka took on Assassins’ Manjit Kolekar in the Super Fly category. It was the Mumbai Assassins who started the match with two wins as both Asif Asad Khan and Pawan Goyat won their respective bouts to give their team a 6-0 lead. However, Asha Roka was not having any of it, and won her bout against Manjit Kolekar to initialize a comeback for the North East Tigers. This resulted in the Tigers winning the next three fights as well through A Naoba Meitei, Jitender Nandal and Ashish Ahlawat to win the match with a score line of 12-6.
The last match of the weekend was a Group A encounter between the Haryana Warriors and the UP Terminators. It was an important match for the Warriors as they had to win to stay in the hunt for the semi-finals. However, it was the Terminators who took an early 3-0 lead through Ashish Kumar as he beat Warriors’ Sandeep Bhagri in the Feather Weight category. The Warriors needed to make a comeback if they were to stay in the League, and they did that through Parmod Kumar, Anita Kumari, Sandeep Nain, Sukhdeep Singh, and Jagdeep Singh. All the boxers won their respective bouts to give their side a much needed 15-3 win.
