Mumbai: Former Indian selector Sandeep Patil said that Rohit Sharma is a better batsman than skipper Virat Kohli in limited overs’ cricket.
As quoted by a news channel, Patil said, “Virat Kohli fans might not like it but I have to say Rohit Sharma is currently the better batsman. Virat is definitely a great batsman, no doubt about it. He is India’s best Test batsman but when it comes to limited overs cricket, Rohit is ahead of him.”
Rohit has been in ominous form of late as he notched up his third double hundred in ODIs against Sri Lanka in the second ODI of the three-match series and also scored a record-equalling hundred of just 35 balls in the T20I series. India won both the limited overs’ series comfortably with the Mumbai batsman leading from the front, in the absence of Kohli, who had been rested.
Since 2015, both Rohit and Virat have hit 11 tons each in ODI cricket and it is however the opener, who has taken less time to score those hundreds.
The Mumbai batsman did it in 48 matches while Kohli took 56 to achieve the same feat. But the Indian skipper has scored more runs (2822 runs with 12 fifties) as compared to Rohit’s 2672 with 11 fifties) in the said time period. Kohli also has been in terrific form in ODI cricket as he is not only has 32 centuries, but also leads the ICC batting rankings in the format. Rohit, is the fifth in the list.
