Mumbai: In a sharp response to Shobhaa De’s tweet after the third day of Rio Olympics 2016, Abhinav Bindra slammed the celebrity writer by calling her a ‘tad unfair’.
The third day was disappointing for India when Abhinav Bindra (shooter) missed the medal by whisker in the Men’s 10m Air Riffle Shooting event and Indian Hockey team lost against Germany in the final minutes of the game.
While India’s wait for a medal seemed to stretch, Shobhaa De tweeted a controversial remark, ‘Goal of Team India at the Olympics: Rio Jao. Selfies lo. Khaali haat wapas aao. What a waste of money and opportunity.’ It just did not create an outrage on Twitter but also caught Bindra’s attention who, taking a stand for his colleagues, tweeted, ‘that’s a tad unfair. You should be proud of your athletes perusing human excellence against the whole world’
Shobhaa De’s tweet got attentions from others too including Gul Panag (actor), Nikhil Dwivedi (actor), Viren Rasquinha (CEO, Olympic Gold Quest), Rahul Mehra (Senior Standing Councel and Standing Councel, Government of NCT of Delhi) and Jwala Gutta (Badminton Player).
Even after the back lash Shobhaa De refused to apologise and instead went ahead and posted another tweet, ‘Official apathy main reason why we fare so poorly during every Olympics, not just Rio. Difficult for athletes to ‘compete’ with hurdle’.
