Kolkata: Left-hander Sudip Chatterjee stayed unbeaten on 114 while skipper Manoj Tiwary hit 69 as Bengal piled up 341/3 on the first day against Services in Delhi on Friday.
Services won the toss and chose to bowl first and the decision didn’t pay off as Bengal openers- Abhishek Raman and Abhimanyu Easwaran put on a 98-run opening partnership that gave the team a solid start.
Right-arm medium pacer Sachidanand Pandey bowled Raman for 40 as Services looked to make a comeback in the match and were partly successful as Pandey once again struck to remove Easwaran for a well-made 65.
But Sudip was in no mood to spoil the good start provided by the openers as he along with Tiwary stitched a 153-run stand that helped Bengal assume complete control over the match. The skipper impressed with the 97-ball knock, where he hit six fours and two huge sixes while the 25-year-old Sudip struck 11 fours in his unbeaten 114-run knock.
The stylish southpaw also added 68 runs with Indian Test wicketkeeper Wriddhiman Saha, who stayed unbeaten as well, having made 32 from 49 deliveries with a four and a six.
Bengal thus, would look to capitalise on this fantastic start on the first day and pile up a huge first innings total which would automatically put the pressure back on the Services team.
