Kolkata: Manish Pandey scored a magnificent double hundred to help Karnataka score 642 runs on Day 2 of their Group A clash against Uttar Pradesh.
The stylish right-hander who was played for the Indian team in the recently concluded series against New Zealand hit a total of 31 fours and two huge sixes of 301 balls to get to his highest score in first-class cricket. He was also ably assisted by Dega Nischal (195), who too played well but missed out on a deserved double century by just five runs. The entire batting unit of the Karnataka team fired as they are now in a comfortable position and it would be interesting to see whether they keep on batting or declare on the third day.
In Amritsar, Bengal continued to dominate Punjab in their Group D clash. Having bowled them out for a paltry 147 in the first innings, Bengal put up a dominant batting display that saw both openers Abhishek Raman and Abhimanyu Easwaran (117) score centuries. After Easwaran’s dismissal, Sairaj Bahutule’s side lost two quick wickets in the form of skipper Manoj Tiwary (4) and Sudip Chatterjee (4) but an unbeaten 67-run stand between centurion Raman (149 n.o) and wicketkeeper batsman Sreevats Goswami (29 n.o) ensured that no more damage was done.
Siddharth Kaul was Punjab’s best bowler with 2 wickets for 84 runs.
