Kolkata: Abhishek Raman’s dominant batting display along with Ishan Porel’s magical five-wicket haul in the third innings helped Bengal defeat Punjab by an innings and 19 runs in Amritsar on Sunday.
After having got off to a fantastic start with the bat, Bengal’s middle order couldn’t capitalise much as from 310/3, then were reduced to 370/9. Skipper Manoj Tiwary’s hopes of a comeback and Sudip Chatterjee’s dream of making it to the national team looks to be improbable as of now after they failed to make an impact with the willow.
The hosts didn’t get off to a good start as they kept losing wickets in patches. Gurkeerat Singh was the best batsman with 57 runs while Ishan Porel’s fifer sealed an important win for Bengal that brings them closer to qualifying for the knock-out stages.
