Kolkata: Mohammad Shami and Ashok Dinda wreaked havoc with the ball to hand Bengal an impressive victory by an innings and 160 runs in Raipur on Tuesday.
Shami, who was left out of the Indian squad for the ODI series against New Zealand broke the back of the Chattisgarh batting on the third day as they had ended the day on 229/5. On the fourth day however, Shami displayed some fine fast bowling as he ended up with six wickets for 61 runs. Fellow paceman Ashok Dinda, who had scalped seven wickets in the first innings also got into the act and took three wickets to end with 10 wickets in the match. Bengal, courtesy this huge win have received seven points.
Earlier, the Bengal batsmen had laid the foundation for the win as the left-handed Sudip Chatterjee notched up his second hundred in as many matches and he was also assisted by Koushik Ghosh (114) and Abhishek Raman (94). Dinda decimated the Chattisgarh batting with seven wickets in the first innings and Shami did the job in the second innings as it was an early end to the game for Chattisgarh, who hardly showed any resistance with the bat barring Abhimanyu Chauhan (115) and Ashutosh Singh (71).
