Kolkata: Noted historian and one of the four members of the Supreme Court appointed Committee of Administrators (CoA) Ramachandra Guha today gave up his post as the BCCI administrator citing personal reasons.
Guha’s counsel had informed a vacation bench comprising of judges M.M. Shantanagoudar and Deepak Gupta, about the historian’s resignation, which he had submitted to the chairman of the Committee of Administrators and former Comptroller and Auditor General Vinod Rai on May 28.
However his resignation wouldn’t be accepted until the Supreme Court’s hearing on this matter takes place on the 14th of July.
The apex court said that a special bench was informed about this development and thus the petition needs to be filed in the registry.
Advocate Rakesh Sinha, who elaborated the matter in front of the bench said that he had filed a petition to let the court know about Guha’s resignation. The special bench which would hear the BCCI case on July 14 comprises of Justices comprising of Justices Dipak Misra, A.M. Khanwilkar and D.Y. Chandrachud.
Earlier in January this year, the Supreme Court had appointed the four member panel- the Committee of Administrators led by Vinod Rai to ensure a smooth and transparent functioning of the BCCI and also to make sure the reforms suggested by the Lodha Committee were followed or not.
Other than Guha and chairman Vinod Rai, the body comprises of former women’s cricketer Diana Edulji and Vikram Limaye, the managing director and CEO of IDFC Limited.
Guha’s resignation comes right three days before India begin their Champions Trophy title defense against Pakistan in Birmingham. There is an air of internal conflict in the team between coach Anil Kumble and the players.
