The Haryana Public Service Commission (HPSC) has announced 3% quota in Class I, II jobs as well for sportsperson representing Haryana. This bonanza offer (Sportspersons Quota) is for the outstanding sportspersons who have made India proud. The policy will cover posts with state government, state government undertakings and local bodies. Sportsperson will be provided direct reservation in the recruitment of Class I and II posts.
The sports quota has been upgraded from Class III and IV government jobs which sportsperson were already getting. Henceforth new policy will be implemented in the recruitment of sports quota for Class I, II, III and IV officers. However, the Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Shri Anil Vij has put on hold the previous policy of rewarding star sportsperson with government jobs stating it was non-transparent and arbitrary.
In last one decade or so, Haryana has earned a repute for constantly bringing sports stars on international front. Several national & international sports icons are born here and famous in their circuits. The state has produced sports stars by not only providing the facilities but also helping them in running their daily lives with quota like offered above. This kind of encouragement (Sportspersons Quota) leads sportspersons to focus on sports as they know that their household expenses will be taken care of by their salary.
Tough is to understand why other states don’t follow Haryana. The talent is everywhere; all we need is to support and nurture them. For sportspersons the games that they play are their passion. And money is needed to support anyone’s passion, once they know that money is coming monthly to survive their family they will automatically focus on their passion to make it their profession.
