Mohali: Minerva Punjab FC will aim to continue their unbeaten run in the Punjab State League when they take on Sri Guru Hargobind Sahib FC in their fifth match at the Minerva Ground in Mohali on Sunday. The team is yet to lose a match in the tournament and have already won two while drawing the other two matches out of the total four.
Punjab’s only football club to participate in the I-League which is the top division league in Indian football, Minerva currently leads the group B of the Punjab league with eight points, which saw them score eight goals in just four matches while conceding only one. Their defence in parallel to their attacks has been organised and is expected to have an easy task in their next match given Hargobind FC have scored just the one goal in three matches.
Their opponent on Sunday however has gone down in the pecking order after losing two back to back matches and are placed in the second last place with just one win in three matches. Although they won their first match by a solitary goal, the next two matches saw them ship in five goals while failing to score any. They will however have a hard-task at hand when they face a tough Minerva Punjab who are yet to lose a single match.
Participating in the Punjab League as a preparation for the upcoming I-League, Spanish coach Juan Luis Perez Herrera is however not ready to take a struggling SGHG FC for granted and is aware of the tough battle on Sunday. He however refused to comment on starting line-up for the match keeping opponents guessing.
Herrera also suggested about tweaking the formations and also bringing in new faces in the playing XI keeping the I-League in mind, leaving no stones unturned.
Meanwhile Jeakeson Singh, India’s first goal scorer in a FIFA tournament is yet to return from international duty and will not be available for the match. He is however expected to join the team as soon as possible.
