Profile | Sathiyan Gananasekaran is an Indian international table tennis player, who’s representing India internationally since 2011. He is the highest ranking TT player of this country, who currently ranks at 28th among the ITTF world rankings. Sathiyan was an active member of the national table tennis team of India and led his team to win the gold in the 2018 Commonwealth Games. He is also a bronze medalist in ITTF World Championship 2017. He has started his career as a trainee in this field at a young age and decided to be a table tennis player since the very beginning. However, his parents forced him to pursue a safer career like engineering, so he kept his studies running along with his table tennis career. Sathiyan is blessed with speed and spin naturally, which are essential skills needed in this sport. With years of practice and dedication, he soon became a head-turner and started making news for his improving playing expertise. After a few moderate success years with the sport, he came under the training session of S Raman. In 2016, Sathiyan won the Belgium Open title and became the second Indian TT player to win an ITTF event. After this, it was impossible to stop the winning trail of this Indian TT player anymore. He won a bronze medal in the ITTF Thailand Challenge, a silver medal in ITTF Bulgaria and a gold medal in the ITTF Spanish Open. This time Sathiyan took part in different events like, he won ITTF Bulgaria title in Men’s Doubles category, while bagged ITTF Spanish Open title in Men’s Singles category.
