Profile | Rohan Bopanna is an Indian professional tennis player, who represents Indian internationally since 2002. He is a member of India’s Davis Cup team and a specialist in doubles. He is a former top-ranked tennis player, who ranked World’s no. 3 player in doubles. Bopanna is one of the most successful tennis stars in India and fourth Indian player to win a Grand Slam title in this sport so far. He started playing tennis from the age of 11 and took his primary training from his native place, before going to the professional tennis academy. Bopanna became a member of the Indian tennis team in 2002 and made his Davis Cup debut in the same following year. His performance in that bout helped him to turn pro in the very next year and he became a dependable player since 2003. After this, Bopanna kept playing a few Open tournaments and appear in the first Grand Slam doubles final in 2010. He played a few unforgettable matches in that tournament with his doubles partner Qureshi and made some records as well. However, they couldn’t make it in the final and had to wait 7 more years to win his first Grand Slam Doubles title. In 2017, Bopanna won his first Grand Slam Doubles title with Gabriela Dabrowski. He is a right-handed aggressive player, who can take the ball control with the net-rushing style and plays in a defensive pattern with proper topspin with his strokes. Apart from a skilled tennis player, Bopanna is a kind-hearted person too, who spends his money in several charitable ventures. He donates a portion of his profits to GoSports Foundation to merchandise named ‘Stop War Start tennis’ (as Compiled by Madhushree Das Ghosh) (Profile Image from Facebook)
