Profile | Neeraj Chopra is an Indian professional track and field athlete, who represents India in javelin throw internationally since 2016. Neeraj is a gold medalist and the only Indian athlete who won gold in Commonwealth Games till date. He started his track and field career from an early age and took part in some national-level championships in the javelin throw. He first came into the limelight for his performance in 2016 IAAF World U20 Championship held in Poland. There he set a world junior record and won a gold medal at the South Asian Games in the same following year. He, however, couldn’t qualify for the 2016 Summer Olympics! But this disappointment couldn’t hold him back for long and won a gold medal at the Asian Athletic Championship 2017 with a javelin throw of 85.23 meters. It was his contribution in the 2018 Commonwealth Games that made him an overnight star in India for his first CWG gold win. He became the first Indian athlete, who not only tastes success in his CWG debut but also, the pioneer one to win a gold medal in Commonwealth Games in the javelin throw. After a few months later, he took part in 2018 Asian Games and set a new record of javelin throw there as well. Apart from the field, Neeraj has an interest in traveling and listening to music for his free time. (as Compiled by Madhushree Das Ghosh) (Profile Image from Facebook)
