Profile | Mahesh Bhupathi is a retired Indian professional tennis player, who has represented India internationally from 1997 to 2016. He is one of the rare tennis players, who have won a career Grand Slam in mixed doubles and the first Indian player to do so. He is the founder of the International Premier Tennis League and currently affiliated as a part of the Hon Board of Advisors of IIMUN. He has won 52 career titles in his long career span and ranked as World’s No. 1 tennis star in 1999 for his consecutive wins. Bhupati has represented India in several international championships like Asian Games, Commonwealth Games, Afro-Asian Games, etc. and appeared in various events including doubles and mixed doubles. He started playing tennis at the age of 3 only and his father gave him his primary coaching of tennis throughout his domestic years. He began his career with the junior level championships and made his international debut in 1997. His Grand Slam win at the French Open in the same following year made him an overnight star in tennis and bestowed him that desiring appreciation that he was craving from the beginning. Gradually Bhupathi became the top doubles players in the 1990s and 2000s for his consecutive wins and became the first one to reach the finals of four Grand Slams pairing with his best tennis partner Leander Paes. He started a film production company with his actress wife Lara Dutta and launched a sports brand for his future investments. |
