Ashwini Ponnappa is an Indian international badminton player, who starts representing India since 2011. She is an active member of the Indian national badminton team and plays for both women’s and the mixed doubles categories in the international badminton circuit.

She is a Commonwealth Games gold medalist and a proud member of the Asian Badminton Championship titleholder team. Ponnappa along with Jwala Gutta reached the top rank of 20 in the BWF World Ranking for their contribution in BWF World Championship. They also have held the world ranking 10 for 3 long years for their record-breaking partnership matches in the international circuit.

She has made her international debut in 2010 South Asian Games and then, appeared in the Commonwealth Games as well in the same year. After this, she took part in 2011 World Championship in the women’s doubles and clinched a bronze medal successfully.

Then, in 2014, Ponnappa has participated in more than one international platform like Asian Games, Asian Championships, Commonwealth Games, etc. and made her mark remarkably in each competition. In 2016, she appeared in the South Asian Games again and this time clinched 2 gold medals along with 1 silver medal.

After these achievements, 2018 has been a great year for this supremely talented badminton player. She appeared in 2018 Commonwealth Games held in Gold Coast, where she bagged 1 bronze medal in women’s double and a gold medal in the mixed team event. Apart from these, Ponnappa also participated in BWF Grand Prix, BWF Tour, BWF International Series, Uber Cup, etc. and made her mark there.
