In a series which saw a dominating batting performance by the visiting New Zealand Women’s team, New Zealand defeat the Proteas 5-2. In the last match of the ODI series played at Boland Park today, great batting performance by New Zealand saw them seal a 126-runs victory over the Momentum Proteas.
The match saw half-centuries by Katie Martin (81) & Amy Satterthwaite (53) as well as 46 runs from Maddy Green to take the visitors to a hefty 273/7 at the end of their innings. For the Proteas, Ayabonga Khaka and Moseline Daniels were the pick of the bowlers, taking a respective 2/37 and 2/45.
Chasing a target of 273, South Africa’s batting reply was fraught with tumbling wickets. Opening the batting, Lizelle Lee & Andrie Steyn made 35 before the latter ran out for 8 in the 6th over. And this also distraught the concentration of Lee as She (22) lost her wicket off the next delivery, leaving their side on 35/2. In a wicket tumble there on, they lost a five wickets for just 17 runs, seeing the home side crumbling with 84/7 in the 26th over.
A 26-run eighth wicket stand between Ayabonga Khaka (15) & Odine Kirsten (22*) could only manage taking them over three figures, as South Africa were ultimately dismissed for 147 runs.
The Proteas team will next play against the World Champions in a five-match series in Australia.
