Rohtak: Former world champion and four times Asian gold-medallist Sarita Devi (60kg) and world silver-medallist Sonia Lather (57kg) progressed to the finals of the National Women’s Boxing Championships on Thursday.
Sarita, representing the All India Police (AIP) defeated Haryana’s Monika 5-0 to set up a summit clash against former national champion Pavitra of the Railway Sports Promotion Board (RSPB) who knocked out Priyanka Chaudhary of Uttarakhand 5-0 by an unanimous verdict.
Sonia, who also represents RSPB defeated AIP’s Sandhya Rani 5-0 and will be up against the reigning youth world champion Shashi Chopra, who got the better of the other Sonia from Andhra Pradesh.
Meanwhile former World Championships silver-medallist Sarju Bala Devi (48kg) competing for Manipur saw off RSPB’s Meenakshi to enter the finals. It was however curtains for former Junior world champion Nikhat Zareen (48kg) who went down to Ritu of Haryana in a split verdict.
