Coventry: India’s Mukesh Singh Gehlot and Gaurav Sharma won gold at the WPU World Powerlifting Championship on Wednesday. The two powerlifters compete under 125kg Raw and 140kg+ Raw respectively at the opening day of World Powerlifting Championship held at Coventry, England.
This is the second world title for Mukesh, who won gold during the 2013 edition of the championship, thus became world champion for the second time late Wednesday night. (See more from Powerlifting here)
Making it a glorious opening for the country, Vaibhav Rana (125kg Raw) and Kanwardeep Singh (110kg Raw) also took silver in their respective events to take the Indian to four medals (two gold, two silver) at the three-day event. However, India’s Sujit Khatri (100kg Raw) couldn’t win a medal despite finishing closest to a medal at fourth in his weight class at World Powerlifting Championship.
Kanwardeep Singh has also repeated his silver performance of the last edition of the championship while Gaurav Sharma has repeated his gold medal performance of the Commonwealth Championship in New Zealand.
