Today we bring you the Cricketers who picked the most wickets in Asia Cup 1988. The Asia Cup was played during October 27- November 4, 1988 in Bangladesh, with four teams participating, teams were in one group and round robin matches would decide the top 2 who would go on to play the the tournament final. India & Sri Lanka played the tournament final with India winning their second Asia Cup title. Pakistan Cricketer Ijaz Ahmed led the batting cards of the tournament edition. 5. Abdul Qadir (Pakistan)
The Pakistan Leg Spinner would pick 6 wickets from the three matches he played in the ACC Asia Cup 1988 at an average of 17. With these wickets, Abdul Qadir Khan featured in the top 5 list of the most wickets in Asia Cup 1988. His best was 3/27 against arch-rivals India on October 31 at Dhaka. Pakistan had batted first and were bowled out for 142 despite 38 from Moin-ul-Atiq & 33 from Ramiz Raja. Arshad Ayub took 5 wickets for India. India won the match by 6 wickets; Mohinder Amarnath scored 74 not out.
4. Kapil Dev (India)
The Indian Legendary All-rounder would pick 6 wickets from the four matches he played in the ACC Asia Cup 1988 at an average of 10.66 & strike rate of 16.5. With these wickets, Kapil Dev Ramlal Nikhanj featured in the top 5 list of the most wickets in Asia Cup 1988. His best was 2/16 against Pakistan in same match of the tournament which saw Abdul Qadir’s best bowling. India won the match by 6 wickets.
3. Ravi Ratnayeke (Sri Lanka)
The Sri Lankan Medium Pace bowler would go on to take 7 wickets from the four matches he played at an average of 18.85. With these wickets, Joseph Ravindran Ratnayeke featured in the top 5 list of the most wickets in Asia Cup 1988. His best was 4/23 against Bangladesh on November 2, in the 6th Match of the tournament. Batting first, Bangladesh could manage only 118/8. Apart from Ratnayeke’s 4, Champaka Ramanayake, Don Anurasiri, Ranjith Madurasinghe & Aravinda de Silva were among the wickets. Sri Lanka chased down the target within 35 overs at the loss of just one wicket as Brendon Kuruppu took the team through with 58 not out.
2. Kapila Wijegunawardene (Sri Lanka)
The Sri Lankan Right-Arm Medium Fast Bowler would go on to pick 8 wickets from the four matches he played in the ACC Asia Cup 1988 at an average of 16.5. With these wickets, Wijegunawardene featured in the top 5 list of the most wickets in Asia Cup 1988. His best was 4/49 against India in the 3rd Match of the tournament. Sri Lanka had batted first and scored 271/6 with Aravinda de Silva‘s 69 & Athula Samarasekera’s 66. India, in reply, were bowled out for 254. While Wijegunawardene took 4, Arjuna Ranatunga took 2 for Sri Lanka.

The Indian off-break bowler Arshad Ayub would pick 9 wickets from the four matches he played in the ACC Asia Cup 1988 at an average of 13.33. With these wickets, Arshad Ayub featured in the top 5 list of the most wickets in Asia Cup 1988. His best was 5/21 against Pakistan in a winning cause as Indians won an easy match against the arch-rivals.
Only one bowler took 5-wickets haul while two bowlers took 4-wickets haul in the tournament. These were the top wicket-takers, the ones who made the top 5 list of the wickets in Asia Cup 1988.
