Today we bring you the Cricketers who picked the most wickets in Asia Cup 1986. The John Player Gold Leaf Trophy was played in 1986, with Bangladesh joining Pakistan & Sri Lanka post withdrawal from India. Matches were played in a round robin format with each team playing once against the other two followed by the tournament final, during March 30–April 6. This was the second edition of the Asia Cup. 7. Zakir Khan
Pakistan Medium pacer Zakir Khan took 4 wickets from the three matches he played in Asia Cup 1986. With these wickets, Zakir Khan featured in the top 5 list of the most wickets in Asia Cup 1986. His best was 3/34 against Sri Lanka in the last match in the first match that Pakistan won by 81 runs. Pakistan had set a target of 198 for the Island nation’s team but they were bowled out for 116. Zakir, Elahi & Qadir took 3 wickets each in this win.
6. Arjuna Ranatunga
Sri Lankan Right-arm medium bowler Arjuna Ranatunga took 4 wickets from the three matches Sri Lanka played in Asia Cup 1986 at an average of 20.25. With these wickets, Ranatunga featured in the top 5 list of the most wickets in Asia Cup 1986. His best was 2/17 against Bangladesh at Kandy in the third match on April 2.
Sri Lanka had put Bangladesh into bat and held them to 131/8 from their 45 overs. Kaushik Amalean, Ranatunga & Ravi Ratnayeke, all three picked two wickets each. Minhajul Abedin top scored with 40 for the Bangladesh team. Sri Lanka chased down the target with 7 wickets remaining; Asanka Gurusinha scored 44 not out while Arjuna Ranatunga scored 41 not out.
5. Manzoor Elahi
Pakistan Medium pacer Manzoor Elahi started his career in 1984. Elahi picked 4 wickets from the three matches he played in John Player Gold Leaf Trophy. With these wickets, Manzoor Elahi featured in the top 5 list of the most wickets in Asia Cup 1986. His best was 3/22 against Sri Lanka in the first match on March 30. Pakistan team had set a target of 198 for the Sri Lankans, which they couldn’t reach as they were bowled out for 116.
4. Wasim Akram
The Left arm Pakistan pacer debuted in ODI in 1984. Wasim Akram would pick 4 wickets from the three matches he played played in the John Player Gold Leaf Trophy at an average of 14.50. With these wickets, Akram featured in the top 5 list of the most wickets in Asia Cup 1986. His best was 4/19 against Bangladesh in the second match on March 31 at Tyronne Fernando Stadium, Moratuwa. Bangladesh were sent into bat first by Pakistan captain Imran and the bowlers justified the decision by bowling the team out for 94 with Abdul Qadir also taking 3. Pakistan won the match by 7 wickets.

3. Ravi Ratnayeke
The Sri Lankan Right-arm fast-medium bowler started his ODI career in 1982. Ravi Ratnayeke would pick 7 wickets from the two matches Sri Lanka played in the John Player Gold Leaf Trophy or Asia Cup 1986. With these wickets, Ratnayeke featured in the top 5 list of the most wickets in Asia Cup 1986. His best was 3/32 against Pakistan in the first match on March 30 at P Sara Oval, Colombo. Sri Lanka sent Pakistan into bat first and bowled them out for 197, with Don Anurasiri, Arjuna Ranatunga & Ashantha de Mel taking 2 wickets each, other than Ratnayeke’s 3-for and Kaushik Amalean’s 1 wicket. Sri Lanka failed the chase as they were bowled out for 116.

2. Kaushik Amalean
The Sri Lankan Medium pacer debuted in ODI in 1986. Kaushik Naginda Amalean would pick 7 wickets from the three matches Sri Lanka played in the ACC Asia Cup 1986. With these wickets, Kaushik Amalean featured in the top 5 list of the most wickets in Asia Cup 1986. His best was 4/46 against Pakistan on April 6 in the tournament final.
Sri Lanka put Pakistan into bat first and the bowlers held the team to 191/9 with Kaushik Amalean taking 4-for while Ravi Ratnayeke took two wickets. Ashantha de Mel & Don Anurasiri took one-each. Sri Lanka chased down the target with 5 wickets remaining. Aravinda de Silva & Arjuna Ranatunga both scored fifties.
1. Abdul Qadir
The Pakistani Leg Spinner debuted in ODI in 1983 for the national team. Abdul Qadir Khan would pick 9 wickets from the three matches Pakistan played in the ACC Asia Cup 1986. With these wickets, Abdul Qadir led the top 5 list of the most wickets in Asia Cup 1986. His best was 3/15 against Bangladesh at Tyronne Fernando Stadium in the second match on March 31.
Pakistan had put Bangladesh into bat first, after winning the toss, and bowled out the minnows at 94. Akram took 4, Qadir picked 3 as Imran Khan picked 2 while Zakir Khan picked one. Pakistan won the match by 7 wickets as Mudassar Nazar scored 47 not out.
