Today we bring you the Asian Cricketers who scored the most runs in Asia Cup 2016. The Asia Cup was played in February-March 2016, 11 matches were played during February 24- March 6, 2016. This was the thirteenth edition of the continental cricket tournament run by Asian Cricket Council. Five teams were part of the Asia Cup 2016 viz. India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, UAE & Sri Lanka. India won their 6th title at the tournament. Here we discuss the batsmen who hit the most runs in Asia Cup 2016.
5. Tillakaratne Dilshan (Sri Lanka)
Sri Lanka opening batsman Tillakaratne Mudiyanselage Dilshan scored 132 runs from the 4 matches he played in the 2016th edition of Asia Cup with an average of 44 and best score of 75 not out coming against Pakistan on March 4. This was the only fifty-plus score that Dilshan had in the tournament as, he, with this run aggregate, Dilshan featured among the top 5 list of most runs in Asia Cup 2016. In his highest innings score match, Sri Lanka had batted first and scored 150/4 from their 20 overs. Dilshan and Dinesh Chandimal (58) were the key run-scorers. Mohammad Irfan took 2 wickets. Pakistan chased down the target to win the match by 6 wickets; Umar Akmal (48) & Sarfaraz Ahmed (38) were the best two scorers.
4. Rohit Sharma (India)
India’s star batsman Rohit Gurunath Sharma scored 138 runs from the five matches India played in the tournament with an average of 27.60 and best score of 83 coming against Bangladesh on February 24, in the tournament opener. This was the only fifty for the Indian opener as he would feature into the top 5 list of most runs in Asia Cup 2016. Batting first, India had made 166/6 from 20 overs with Rohit’s 83 & Hardik Pandya’s 31. Al-Amin Hossain took 3 wickets. Bangladesh, in reply, could manage only 121/7 despite Sabbir Rahman’s 44. Ashish Nehra took 3 wickets. Indian Team won the match by 45 runs.
3. Dinesh Chandimal (Sri Lanka)
Sri Lanka Cricketer Lokuge Dinesh Chandimal scored 149 runs from the four matches at an average of 37.25 and best score of 58 coming against Pakistan in the same match that had Dilshan scoring 75 not out in a Sri Lankan loss. With this run aggregate, Dinesh Chandimal featured among the top 5 list of most runs in Asia Cup 2016. Chandimal had scored two fifties in the tournament, the other one coming against UAE in the second match of the tournament.
2. Virat Kohli (India)
Indian Cricketer Virat Kohli scored 153 runs from four innings of the five matches India played in the tournament with an average of 76.5 and best score of 56 not out coming against Sri Lanka on March 1. With this run aggregate, Kohli featured among the top 5 list of most runs in Asia Cup 2016. In his highest individual score match, Sri Lanka set a target of 139 batting first with Chamara Kapugedera‘s 30 & Milinda Siriwardana’s 22. Jasprit Bumrah, Hardik Pandya & Ravichandran Ashwin took 2 wickets each. India chased down the target to win by 5 wickets as the Chase master Kohli would guide the team through. Apart from Kohli’s 58, Yuvraj Singh scored 35.
1. Sabbir Rahman (Bangladesh)
Bangladesh batsman Mohammad Sabbir Rahman scored 176 runs from the five matches he played in the tournament with an average of 44 and best score of 80 coming against Sri Lanka on February 28 in the fifth match of the tournament. This was the only fifty scored by Sabbir as he would lead the top 5 list of most runs in Asia Cup 2016. Batting first, Bangladesh would score 147/7 from their overs with Rahman’s 80 & Shakib Al Hasan’s 32. Dushmantha Chameera took 3 wickets. Sri Lanka, in reply, could reach only 124/8 despite Dinesh Chandimal’s 37. Al-Amin Hossain took 3 while Shakib Al Hasan took 2.
These were the top scorers in the 13th edition of the Asia Cup, in 2016. It was a round robin group stage with 5 teams in same group with each team playing once against one another, top two would go to the tournament final.
