His team would finish second in the team table winning 24, losing 5 and drawing 15 matches in the season and qualify for the UEFA Cup first round. Barcelona would score 63 goals, while they would concede 29 goals in the tournament edition.

Former UNAM Footballer Hugo Sánchez Márquez would score 34 goals for Real Madrid Club de Fútbol during the 1986-87 tournament. With these goals, the Mexican Footballer got himself among the footballers with the most goals in La Liga 1986-87, in fact leading the list. The Bernabéu based side would finish atop the team table, winning 27, losing 5 and drawing 12 and qualify for the European Cup first round. Real Madrid would score 84 while they would concede 37 goals in the tournament edition.
