The UEFA European Championship 1964 or European Nations’ Cup 1964 was the second edition of the European tournament hosted by Spain during June 17- 21, 1964. Four teams qualified for the final tournament, after contest between 29 European teams, with the hosts, Soviet Union, Hungary & Denmark being the four teams. 3. Ferenc Bene
The Újpesti Dózsa Footballer was part of the Hungary team during 1962-1979. Ferenc Bene would hit 2 goals from 2 matches he played during the tournament. His team went on to lose their semifinal match 1-2 against eventual Champions Spain, would then win the 3rd place playoff against Denmark 3-1 at Camp Nou, Barcelona. Dezső Novák was the only other goal-scorer for team Hungary in the tournament. Bene was also a member of the Tokyo 1964 Summer Games Gold Medalist team and his was the top goal-scorer of the Olympic Football tournament with 12 goals from 5 matches.

The Ferencváros Footballer was part of the Hungary team since 1959. The defender Dezső Novák was a member of the Bronze medalist Hungary team at the Rome 1960 Summer Games, Gold medalist teams at Tokyo 1964 Summer Games and Mexico City 1968 Olympic Games. Novák would hit 2 goals from 2 matches he played during the tournament. With these 2 goals, this Ják born former Szombathelyi Haladás Footballer got himself among the footballers with the most goals in Euro 1964, co-led the list. His team would finish 3rd in the 4-team tournament.
1. Jesús María Pereda
The FC Barcelona Footballer was part of the Spain team in UEFA Euro 1964, was playing with the national team since 1960. Jesús María Pereda Ruiz de Temiño would go on to score 2 goals from the 2 matches he played in the mega tournament. With these 2 goals, Chus Pereda, former Sevilla & Real Madrid Footballer who started his club career with Indautxu, co-led the footballers with the most goals in Euro 1964. His team won the second edition of the European Nations’ Cup defeating Soviet Union 2-1 in the final.
This was the first participation of Spain in UEFA Euro Tournament as they, despite qualifying the previous version as well, didn’t participate in the previous edition. This was Spain’s first UEFA Euro Tournament title. Marcelino Martínez & Amancio Amaro were the other goal-scorers for the Spain team in this tournament.
These were the footballers who made the list of most goals in Euro 1964, in fact all of these scored the highest number of goals, 2, in the tournament. UEFA Euro 1964 would start with semifinals between the four teams based on their qualification points, followed by 3rd place playoff and then the tournament final. Hosts Spain will play the final against Soviet Union, their first; would go on to win against the defending champions in the game of 90 minutes.
A Total of 13 goals were scored during the tournament of 4 matches, with Carl Bertelsen, Valentin Ivanov, Galimzyan Khusainov, Viktor Ponedelnik & Valery Voronin being the other goal-scorers. The tournament would go on to become second most popular tournament across the globe in Football involving the national teams.
