Kolkata: Kamo Stephane Bayi, on Monday dismissed Kolkata club Mohun Bagan’s allegations against him saying that all of these were mere excuses to make him leave the club.
Former I-League champions Mohun Bagan, who had narrowly missed out on the recently concluded Calcutta Football League (CFL) title had earlier alleged that Kamo-one of their star recruits didn’t put his best foot forward in the team’s last three matches.
“I won’t say anything about my performance. Everyone has watched me play. Let them judge me. From the time I’ve been playing in India, my best performance has come in the Mohun Bagan jersey. Actually all these allegations are arising because I’ve missed a goal-scoring opportunity in the derby. Anyone can miss a goal. Even Messi, Ronaldo and Neymar misses goals. These are actually excuses to leave me out of the club,” said the Ivorian.
Kamo also went on to cite the example of Daniel Bidemi, one of Mohun Bagan’s recruits for the last season of the CFL where he had actually played well and had still shown the exit door.
He said, “This is the legacy of Mohun Bagan. Last year, they meted out the same treatment to Daniel Bidemi. I’m not thinking about all this. This can happen anytime. I will not face problems in finding a club for myself.”
Kamo had formed a crucial part of the Mohun Bagan line-up alongside Ansumana Kromah as the duo led from the front for the Mariners in the CFL.
Mohun Bagan was on the verge of snapping arch-rivals East Bengal’s record of eight consecutive CFL title wins and it looked possible at one point of time in the deciding match between these two on September 24. But they couldn’t hold on to the crunch moments in the game and thus ended up on the losing side, despite drawing the derby 2-2.
