Kolkata: All the teams in the I-League are gearing up and signing the best possible players for the upcoming season of domestic football which would be held alongside the ISL for the very first time in Indian football. With the star goalkeeper Debjit Majumder being retained by his ISL franchise Atletico De Kolkata, the Mariners have signed their former goalie Shilton Paul for the upcoming I-League.
Shilton Paul was the captain of the Green and Maroon brigade when they won their maiden and only I-League title till now in the 2014-2015 season of the premier competition. His inclusion would be a huge boost to the Mariners who along with arch-rivals East Bengal are looking forward to put together a strong squad.
Shilton was a part of the Atletico De Kolkata squad that won it’s second ISL title in 2016.
Arch-rivals East Bengal on the other hand are in talks with former national team goalkeeper Sanjiban Ghosh. According to sources, Ghosh has visited the club a couple of times to have a talk with the club officials and if things progress in the right direction, the Red and Gold brigade might complete his signing on a two-year contract.
Meanwhile Khalid Jamil is also trying to secure the services of Goan winger Victorino Fernandes. Also former East Bengal midfielder Mehtab Hossain has decided to leave his club and be a part of the ISP draft, where he expects to get picked by his ISL franchise Kerala Blasters.
