Kolkata: In an attempt to build a strong squad for the upcoming season of the I-League, Kolkata giants Mohun Bagan are in talks for signing Argentine sensation Mauro Ortiz as a backup for Haitian Sony Norde.
Bagan seems to have their sights set on Ortiz, who is a part of the Argentine U-23 team. He has played in Boca Juniors in the past and would be a top target for most of the teams. According to sources, Mohun Bagan head coach Sanjoy Sen is very much interested in roping in the youngster and has have also asked the club to facilitate the process. This was confirmed by Ortiz’s agent who said that the talks are on currently which might lead him to play in India in the upcoming season of domestic football.
Ortiz had visited India last year to play in the Sait Nagjee International Football Tournament held in Calicut, Kerala. He is known for his speed on the pitch, his dribbling skills and his shooting prowess, and the efforts of the sensation has already been praised by the Argentine football legends.
Some ISL clubs are looking forward to sign this exciting young forward. But Mohun Bagan seems to be very eager in getting him in their line-up, which undoubtedly would give their side and edge in the next season of Indian domestic football.
